Worked a little today. Looks like more money might be coming my way; things could not have worked out any better.
Sometimes I really have to stop and wonder why things usually 'work out' for me. First and foremost, I realize that usually its because people around me help me out tremendously. My parents, my friends (Tim especially) .. most of my bosses have always seemed particularly eager to help me when I'm between things to do. I remember my boss from IMS, Peter, was more worried about what I was going to do when I was booted from university than my parents. Memories of him taking me aside and explaining that he'd offer me a job at IMS on the spot if I so wanted will probably stick with me for a long time. Probably being a white male from a middle class background is probably a big help too, but even the act of pointing that out can be somewhat reverse-racist, so I don't dwell on that too much.
Anyhow, just got kinda reflective there. I definately house some guilt that I havn't really worked my ass off for what I have. I didn't fight tooth and nail for this. Probably why I'm not a die-hard capitalist .. I'd be living in the gutter if life was one big competition to get ahead of the next guy. I just want to be comfortable, and unless I find a way to break into music, I don't imagine my career will ever be my life.
Anyhow, Tim's passed my number along to Philip, who was one of my many supervisors at ZAQ during the never-ending '$100,000+ earner' org-chart dance. Apparently Frogware (too lazy to link) might be looking for a C++ developer, and guess what folks .. I'm a C++ developer. More as it develops. It would seriously rock the party from a location standpoint - at Spadina and Richmond, its not only close, its on the fabled Queen strip which features the best non-mall shopping and eating in Toronto. Yeehaw. Also, Frogware employs more than one developer, so I'd finally work in an environment I could talk shop in again .. it got mighty lonely after Andrew left ZAQ in the nerd department.
