kickass kareoke

My brother was in from Boston (he's going to MIT) last week, and we went out to the Rivoli last night to shoot some pool. Lucky for us (well, for me at least) it was kareoke night .. woot. I sang "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", which was WAY too low for me to sing. Such is the nature of kareoke - you never know if something is going to be in your range. Doubly so if you have a 2 semitone range like I do. As luck would have it, Sam was there too. She's such a sweetheart, and I hadn't seen her since March, so it was good to catch up with her. Ty (my brother) stayed near to the last subway ride to catch me pseudo-redeem my earlier performance with my rendition of "Into the Great Wide Open" (Tom Petty) .. but I was still put to shame by some of the other singers. One especially avant-garde individual rose the roof with a stoic interpretation of Snoop Dawg. His hilariously indifferent take of "Gin and Juice", against the backdrop of Dr. Dre's seriously deeply funky production, was the highlight of the evening for me.

Ty is very wise. Everytime I see him, he imparts more knowledge into me. For this, I am thankful. For some reason, he has the ability to get right to the point, which I admire. I don't see enough of him, but he'll be back in September. Word up, Ty!
