sucker!

To think, my brother had to get a full scholarship and actually move down to MIT. What a sucker! ;)

Things are going well with me. We're having a party in the parking lot of our complex (hope it isn't this cold .. and it'd better not rain.) On a down note, MY BIKE WAS STOLEN. ARGGGGGH.

But whatever. Life is good, so I can't sweat stuff like that.

Lots of interesting things going on in politics too, both north and south of the border. I hope you're keeping informed .. things are getting interesting. I *am* dissappointed by The Star these days. They are becoming somewhat shrill and righteous, perhaps in response to the decreasing differences between the Tories and the Liberals. I don't think it's doing them any favours though. If they alienate the ever decreasing amount of middle class, who seem to be turning more and more blue collar conservative by the day, this country might lose the socialist underpinnings that has made it a country worth living in. With corperate-friendly Martin poised to become the next PM, I'm worried that we will become too dependant on the US economy (we are already, but I wouldn't say we're past a point of no return) and that our social programs will be sabotaged by a lack a of public support. I don't think people should underestimate the influence foreign investment has on cultural socioeconomic values.

Howard Hampton won the debate for me, if only by default, so maybe the NDP will put in a strong showing on Oct 2nd. With the aforementionned policy gap closing fast between the Tories and the Liberals, it might mean the NDP will have a chance the next time around .. depending, I think, on whether the next provincial government is judged in 4 years to have done no better than the current prov. government. Let's just hope they don't sell everything off before hand. All I know is that nobody, and I mean nobody has proven to my satistfaction that common infrastructure and services to which everybody must have access can be done by the private sector any better than the public sector without raising taxes/prices.
